The Entrepreneurs Game
Learning and training entrepreneurial skills through a serious game is not just hot, it is also highly efficient and effective. At the same time, gaming is entirely in line with the lifestyle of vocational education students. The Entrepreneurs Game will stimulate both the drive and the competencies needed for entrepreneurship. Serious games in education are fun. They will stimulate students to ask questions and will make learning more attractive.
Gaming in the classroom
At the start of the Entrepreneurs Game the students will receive a virtual €20.000,- seed capital. The challenge is to start your own business and run it successfully. In a closed economy students will compete and cooperate online. This game will force them to continually deal with sudden changes in their business environment in order to remain in the lead. By using an economic simulation model students will develop and train the competencies associated with entrepreneurship through play, such as acting commercially, analytic skills, taking the initiative, et cetera. Apart from the Commerce and Economy study programmes it is highly important that other study programmes also stimulate entrepreneurship. The Entrepreneurs Games is in fact the ultimate game to acquire entrepreneurial skills as part of any study programme.
The game was designed to teach students the principles of doing business in a wholly intuitive way. Teachers will be able to manage up to a maximum of 120 students in their role of mentor or coach, without any additional work. The experiences gained from the game will help them to fine tune their learning material to specific student queries. In a way, this game will create a need for knowledge with students, enabling the teacher to teach in a demand-driven instead of a supply-driven manner.
The game can be played anytime and anywhere, meaning that the learning curve will keep rising also in the students’ free time. Students will continue to train their competencies without any further effort from the teacher.
The configuration of the Entrepreneurs Game allows it to be played within a single course of 8 to 9 weeks. Apart from the theoretical learning material this highly practical game is an excellent tool for competency-based education. The knowledge gained will be directly put to use in virtual reality, thus strengthening the relation between theory and practice.
